project summary

Suzie Bridges Architects completed a comprehensive design and feasibility study for the substantial alteration of a poorly constructed 1950s waterside house and design of a new two storey, three-bedroom house in its place.

The site is in a Conservation area surrounded by a very sensitive group of listed buildings and set against the backdrop of a Grade I listed church.

The proposed design involved adding an additional story to the original outline, altering the roof profile to a deep-eaved gable end facing the waterfront.

A single-storey extension to the rear courtyard and the conversion of the rear half of the boat house to the side added an additional bedroom with ensuite, keeping the shoreward end for boat storage. The external appearance, envelope and materials were updated to achieve a contemporary home.
